Welcome to Hampton - a great place to live, work, play and learn! We are proud to be home to Langley Air Force Base and to serve military families from all branches from across our region. 


We recognize the challenges that are unique to our military-connected families. We hope that this page will serve as a “one-stop shop” to assist with transitioning to and from our division, as well as an “at your fingertips” resource to your frequently asked questions. 


For decades, a central office administrator has served as the military point of contact for our division. A direct report to the superintendent, the director of community and legislative relations works closely with school liaison officers and installation leadership to provide support to military-connected families and installation staff, and serves as the school division representative  on the city's Military Affairs Committee, as well as the Langley Civic Leaders Association. Transition support for individual families is available here, as well.


In Hampton, we also recognize that our community is enriched by the experiences of our military students and their families. These are only a few examples:

  • Military-connected students bring their personal “global experiences and understanding” to our classrooms and share them with other students, some of whom have never had the opportunity to venture far beyond the boundaries of our city.

  • Military parents engage with our schools and in their children’s learning.

  • Individual service members contribute to the life of our schools as volunteers, mentors, guest speakers, and so much more.

  • Specific groups of military members create formal, enduring partnerships with individual schools and offer unique support and opportunities throughout the school year.

  • Active members and veterans alike within Hampton engage with our students to make our annual observance of Veterans Day a relevant and significant experience for our young people, bringing our Veterans Day curriculum to life!

Our bottom line is we appreciate our military community!


Additionally, we encourage  our military-connected family members to seek employment with our school division, and we want our military members and families to choose to stay with us here in Hampton when their military service is complete. Ultimately, we hope that you will smile with delight when you reflect upon your time as members of our Hampton City Schools family.

April is the Month of the Military Child.
Watch for our annual celebrations in schools and across our community!

When preparing to move from Hampton City Public Schools, please contact your student’s school to discuss withdrawal procedures with the appropriate personnel. It is important to notify your child’s school as early as possible - or at least a week in advance - to begin the withdrawal process.  Official copies of student educational records will be sent to the receiving school at no cost. Military families moving out of the country may want to hand carry their child’s records with them during the moving process, and can request hard copies of items needed to get registered in the new school. The request for hard copies should be made at least 48 hours before the student withdraws.

Staff at your child’s school may request the name and address of your child’s new school, including the city and the state.

When you arrive at your new school and discover that you need further information or have questions, do not hesitate to call the school attendant who assisted you with your child’s withdrawal.
