HCS Instructional Plan for the 2021-2022 School Year

Hampton City Schools (HCS) is excited to announce that we plan to open all schools in the fall of 2021 for in-person learning. The full presentation shared with the HCS School Board on May 19, 2021, can be viewed here

In-person Learning for the 2021-2022 School Year

For the 2021-2022 school year, all grade levels will operate five days a week, in-person, using a traditional school day/bell schedule. Click here to view the HCS 2021-2022 School Calendar.

The primary method of student learning for next school year will be full-time, in-person learning for all grade levels. No action is required for students who are returning to in-person learning.

As we prepare for the opening of a new school year, HCS will take into advisement health guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the Virginia Health Department. Based on updated guidance, HCS will implement appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.

Limited Virtual Learning for the 2021-2022 School Year

HCS will offer a limited virtual learning option for the 2021-2022 school year through the Virtual Virginia Program, which requires a parent/guardian virtual learning agreement that is due by June 4, 2021. Families interested in exploring the Virtual Virginia option, which will be provided to students in grades kindergarten through Grade 12, are encouraged to join us for an information session that will be held virtually on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. To register for this Zoom meeting, please click here. As will be shared during the meeting, certain requirements must be met in order for your child to be eligible for Virtual Virginia, and to remain in this program. Additionally, students will be expected to commit for the entirety of the school year. Families may view the presentation in advance of the information session by clicking here. For those families not able to attend the information session, a recording of the meeting is located here. You may also view our Virtual Learning Parent FAQ's here.

Our core business remains that of teaching and learning with priority, as well as value, placed on safe, direct in-person instruction. We look forward to seeing our students back in our school buildings five days a week, and we thank you for entrusting us with the responsibility of educating your child as we work together to ensure academic excellence for every child, every day, whatever it takes.
