School Board appoints student School Board representatives for 2024-2025

The Hampton School Board appointed Sophia Harris, a senior at Kecoughtan High School, and Kaleb Lucas, a junior at Phoebus High School, as the student representatives to the School Board for the 2024-2025 school year. The students were appointed and sworn in at the September 4, 2024, School Board meeting.


Sophia Harris is a senior at Kecoughtan High School. She is honored to serve a second year as one of the two HCS school board representatives. Sophia has been involved in a number of leadership positions including lead ambassador for the On-Stage Performing Arts Academy, junior class president, and is a Top 20 Under 20 award recipient. Throughout her high school matriculation, Sophia has also been a member of the KHS swim team, her church youth group, and several honor societies, including the National Honor Society. Sophia is enrolled in Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses. She is an active member of the theater program at Kecoughtan and has been a cast member in both of the Hollywood to Hampton short film productions. Sophia enjoys competing, performing, and cooking and aspires to attend Hampton University as a theatre major.


Kaleb Lucas is a junior at Phoebus High School. He enjoys music, politics, and community service. He currently serves as Phoebus’ drum major, an academy ambassador for the Academy of the College Experience, and is on the track team. He plans to become a lawyer and politician and attend a Historically Black College or University upon high school graduation in 2026. He is passionate about community service and outreach, leading many community projects. This includes a STEM + Reading initiative for elementary school students at the Hampton Family YMCA. In addition to being active in his school and community, Kaleb serves as the Youth Council president at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple. This past school year, Kaleb was named Teen Volunteer of the Year by the Hampton Family YMCA and recognized as an honoree for the Hampton Roads Workforce Council's 'Top 20 Under Twenty.'
