Phoebus High School student wins 2nd place at Virginia State Fair

Congratulations to Yasir Miller, a student at Phoebus High School who won second place in the Youth Culinary Arts Scholarship Competition at the Virginia State Fair. The dish, Indonesian Beef Bami Goreng, was entered into the International Favorites category. In addition to receiving second place, he received a $500 scholarship.

“We are so proud of Yasir, he has come so far with his confidence in his skills in the kitchen,” said Phoebus culinary arts teacher and chef Johnna Hamlin. “For this competition he had to research a country and choose a dish from that country. He chose Indonesian because he was fascinated with the culture. The recipe he chose was Beef Bami Goreng. When we sampled the Beef Bami we knew it was a winner.”
