HCS students selected as 2022 mayor’s holiday card winners
Each year the mayor’s office of the city of Hampton sponsors a holiday card contest for art students attending the four Hampton high schools. This program began over 18 years ago with Mayor Ross Kearney II and each subsequent mayor has continued it. The mayor selects a theme and the high school students interpret that theme using any two-dimensional media that can be reproduced onto a card. A minimum of one piece from each high school is selected for the cards. The cards are sent to area business leaders and other officials to extend the mayor’s and city council’s holiday wishes. This program is a wonderful way to showcase Hampton art students and their great teachers.
This year the theme was unity and the winners interpreted the theme in their own creative ways.
Congratulations to the following student winners and their art teachers:
Phoebus High School: Kayla Bradley, Grade 10; James Britt, art teacher
Hampton High School: Kyra Pulley, Grade 11; Ashley Ault, art teacher
Bethel High School: Mya "Koi" Newsome, Grade 9, Savannah Hastey, art teacher
Kecoughtan High School: Nora Martin, Grade 11; Madeline Brewer, art teacher
The students will be recognized during the December 14 city council meeting at City Hall.
