The Department of School Social Work Services in partnership with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Delta Beta Lambda Chapter, will host the 12th Annual Boys Conference on Saturday, November 20, 2021. The conference will be held virtually from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is open to boys in grades 6 through 12 who attend Hampton City Schools.

This year’s opening speaker is Jacotron A. Potts.

For many years, Jacotron A. Potts has served the community of Charlotte as a minister, mentor, innovative thinker, strategist, and communicator. He serves as a catalyst for innovative change, through offering solutions to both organizations and agencies. In 2015, Potts reorganized his business and launched The Potts Group, LLC., expanding the scope of empowerment services being offered. The consultant, move-to-action speaker, and ordained minister has served in churches, businesses, non-profit organizations, as well as in the mission field with leaders in Brazil; Isiolo, Kenya; and Nairobi, Kenya. A sought out speaker, he has served as presenter for the City Symposium, and as a key speaker for events such as Role Model Classic, 100 Black Men, Juneteenth Celebration, Martin Luther King Celebration, Teach for America, and the Fortune 500 company Newell Rubbermaid, just to name a few.

The following workshops will be offered:

  • Self-awareness and self-management skills, presented by Shon F. Barnes
  • Social-awareness and interpersonal skills, presented by Anton A. Bell
  • Decision-making skills, presented by Donavon Wright

Additionally, the superintendent of Hampton City Schools, Dr. Jeffery Smith, and Ronald Davenport, from Alpha Phi Alpha, will provide welcoming remarks.
