Akielle Mitchell, fifth grader at Aberdeen Elementary School, gives opening at May 6 School Board meeting

Akielle Mitchell, a fifth grader at Aberdeen Elementary School, was selected to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and give the opening at the May 6, 2026, School Board meeting. He shared a selection called Message From Nature, written by Kshma Lal.

Before being seated, School Board Chair Dr. Richard Mason challenged Akielle to recite the Aberdeen Creed, in which he did so loudly and proudly, knowing every word.

 

Akielle likes making music, particularly singing and playing the piano. He also likes dancing and track. His career desire is to be a musician. His favorite subjects are math and science.

His grandmother, principal Jasmin Royal, assistant principal Nicole Lewis, and music teacher Ms. Faison joined him at the meeting.
