Students receive recognition at the 31st Annual 3rd District Congressional Art Contest

Two Hampton City Schools students received recognition at the 31st Annual 3rd District Congressional Art Contest held at the Downing-Gross Cultural Art Center on May 20, 2024.

Sadie Brooks, a Bethel High School senior, was recognized for submission of Portrait. Sadie’s teacher is Christie Liddell. Emma Woodley, a senior at Hampton High School, was recognized for her submission of Beauty in Me. Her teacher is Ashley Ault-Green.

Each spring, a nationwide high school visual art competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and each congressional district. Since 1982 when the Artistic Discovery competition began, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol and also featured on the House.gov Congressional Art Competition page.

Congratulations to Sadie and Emma for their outstanding achievements. We are so proud of you. Thank you for sharing your creativity and talent. We are excited to see where your artistic talent will take you next.
