Fifty-eight HCS students graduate from Virginia Peninsula Community College with associate degree
Tuesday, May 14, 2024, marked a significant milestone as 58 students from Hampton City Schools earned their associate degree from Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) prior to receiving their high school diploma. Among them, one student is from Hampton High School, while 57 students are members of the Virginia Peninsula Community College Academy of the College Experience (ACE) at Phoebus High School.
The ACE Academy, located within Phoebus High School, represents one of Hampton City Schools’ wall-to-wall academies. ACE offers students an early introduction to the academic demands and intellectual stimulation of college-level coursework through a carefully integrated blend of high school and college curriculum. By enabling students to pursue their high school diploma and associate degree simultaneously, ACE significantly lowers college tuition expenses and the duration required to earn postsecondary degrees. In the last four years alone, 157 ACE students have obtained their associate degree prior to receiving their high school diploma, bringing the total number of associate degree recipients through dual enrollment to 161 since its inception.
ACE is highly competitive, offering only 100 slots per grade level. Visit our website here for more information and requirements to participate in the program.
