First year bus drivers earn top spots in the HCS transportation rodeo
The Hampton City Schools transportation department held their annual bus rodeo which gives first-year bus drivers an opportunity to showcase their driving skills to their peers. The top three drivers of the 37 participants were first place – Kecionda Kidd; second place – Carmen de Bailey; and third place – Marcus Thomas. Kidd will compete in the state rodeo held in Roanoke, VA at the June VAPT conference.
The drivers participate in a written general knowledge and pre-trip test, and an obstacle course. The obstacle course simulates picking students up, crossing railroad tracks, and other stations. They are graded on each area.
“It is fun for all first-year drivers to participate and exciting to watch,” shared Natasha Robinson, safety and training supervisor for the HCS transportation department.
