HCS secondary band students earn honors

We continue to celebrate Music In Our Schools Month by congratulating the following middle and high school students for earning placement in the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association All-District Honor Band. This is the highest individual award that band students can earn in the region. Student auditions include fundamentals, prepared music, and sightreading. Students auditioned with middle school and high school musicians from seven other peninsula school systems. Multiple students also earned the privilege of further challenging themselves by auditioning for placement in the All-State Band. 

“Participation in the school band helps students develop discipline, teamwork, and musical skill while working together to create a powerful and unified performance,” said Kelly Dee, visual and performing arts curriculum leader.
