Kecoughtan High School NJROTC drone team places at high school drone competition

Congratulations to the Kecoughtan High School NJROTC drone team for their overall third place trophy earned at the first Granby High School Drone meet held Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Norfolk, VA. Nine teams from Virginia and Maryland competed in five indoor events - an academic drone test, "blind" obstacle drone challenge, slalom speed challenge, four square landing challenge, and "Hula Ooops" obstacles challenge.

In addition, team member Landon also earned first place in the slalom speed challenge.

LCDR K. R. Wilson, KHS NJROTC instructor said, “Exciting is the word that comes to mind when I think about the KHS NJROTC Warrior Drone team. These cadets have the discipline to come in before school twice a week to practice, repair, and pilot the drones. They are honing teambuilding skills as well. In the very near future, I hope to have each member of the team enrolled in an Unmanned Systems Program class to prepare them for the FAA Part 107 license. Upon licensing, the cadets will have earned drone pilot wings which they can wear on the NJROTC uniform or flight suit!”

Team members included Timothy Phillips, Hunter Frazier, Jeremiah McKenney, and Landon Clark.
