Lindsay Middle School holds I Am More Than Cute conference for girls
Forty-two girls from Lindsay Middle School attended the I Am More Than Cute girls conference chat brunch at the school on Saturday, March 9, 2024. The event was free of charge to the students.
The activity was created and organized by Lindsay seventh grade English language arts teacher Natalie Clark. After brunch, women who are considered masters in their fields led a variety of workshops so that the girls could learn traits, characteristics, strategies and tools in order to be goal-oriented, aware, content with oneself, successful and productive citizens in this 21st century-driven world. Each girl was able to select her top four workshops of interest.
The workshops and leaders were as follows:
Business Adventures – Tawan Maner
Depression – Tesia Heard
Fashion – Nicole Heard
Friendship – Carleen Holmes
Hair Care – Tameka Hucks
Hygiene – Tiara Kersey
Make-Up/Skin Care – Lisa Sconiers Singleton
Peer Pressure – Felicia Elbert
Relationships – Charnita Clements, Britney Brown, Symphonie Linyear
Self-Esteem – Shanda Boone-Hurdle
Social Media – Carlynn Lucas
Parent Information Session – Tracie Goard-Iverson
Clark shared the following in her opening speech at the conference:
“I am More Than Cute girls' conference chat is a safe place for young ladies like you who can come together in love and peace while being authentic and honest to find and discover who you are. My hope is that you see that you are more than your looks, you are more than your hair and clothes. I pray that when you leave here today that you are inspired and empowered to see your own beauty from within, so that you can and will excel in life because you know that you are more than cute.”
One student stated, “I enjoyed the conference because it was inspiring listening to women who were there to help me overcome challenges. I learned that I am brilliant, intelligent, and smart. I have more to offer than my looks. I am more than cute.”
