Kecoughtan High School boys outdoor track team wins Class 5 state title; Phoebus students earn individual Class 4 titles


Congratulations to the Kecoughtan High School (KHS) boys outdoor track team for winning their second consecutive VHSL Class 5 state title. The meet was held at Todd Stadium on May 31 and June 1, 2024. This was genuinely a collaborative effort by both the coaches and the athletes.


Chazden Wilson, a senior, won the high jump with a height of six feet, six inches and the 4 x 400 team relay also came in first. This team consisted of juniors Tremayne Cowart, Gabriel Mason, Evan Adams, and senior Daniel Danner. They had a time of three minutes and 18 seconds which was the fastest time amongst ALL six state classes. 


Other students achieved notable placements as well. Junior Kellen LaRoche tied for second in the high jump and Jaymes Saunders, a senior, took fourth. Maxie Russell, also a senior, finished seventh in the shot put. Saunders placed fourth in the triple jump and sixth in the 110-meter hurdles. Senior JuhSaun Credle placed seventh in the long jump. In the 400-meter dash, Danner placed fifth and previously set a new school record with a time of 47.32 seconds. In the 800-meter run, junior Tremaye Cowart finished second with a personal best, breaking a 1996 school record with a time of one minute, 56 seconds. Finally, the 4x800 relay team, comprising of juniors Jashoua Thomas, Jeremiah Cody, Cowart, and senior Danner, finished second with a season-best time of eight minutes, five seconds.


Collectively the team earned 76 total points to earn the championship while the second place team came in at 38 points. 


The KHS coaches are: Maya Moore, Deon Moore, Brittany Day, J’Niyah Know-Wilson, William Burrell, and Ronisha Williams.


The Class 4 VHSL state meet was held on May 31 and June 1, 2024, at Liberty University. Phoebus High School (PHS) had several students who earned state championships.


Isaiah Hayes, a senior at Phoebus, won the state championship in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 13.94. Paul Stephen Davis, earned the title in the 400 meters with a time of 49.38.

 

Phoebus brought home their third individual/event state championship at this meet in a 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 3:22.78. This team consisted of sophomore Jeremiah Hines, and seniors Siyon Bunch, Malikai Mitchell, and Davis. 


The PHS coaches are: Chineta Jackson Davis, Shamara Russell, Alonzo Moore, NaTasha Diaz, Shea Degruy, and Marques Hamilton.
