Armstrong School for the Arts celebrates 100 Years of Art Through the Ages
Armstrong School for the Arts stepped back in time to celebrate 100 Years of Art Through the Ages on Monday, June 13, 2022. The art show is one of the school’s events to celebrate its 100 year anniversary.
The school’s 100 years of art included the 1920s through the 2020s. Each grade level highlighted a decade and an artist.
1920s – Artist – Georgia O’Keefe and Art Deco with artwork by second grade
1930s – Artist – Frida Kahlo and The Wizard of Oz with artwork by second grade
1940s – Artist – William Johnson and Kandinsky Abstract Art with artwork by fifth grade
1950s – Artist – Jackson Pollock and Pop Art – Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol with artwork by first grade
1960s – Artist – Andy Warhol and Pop Art with artwork by kindergarten
1970s – Artist – Louise Nevelson and Cartoon Characters and Vintage Items with artwork by third grade
1980s – Artist – Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat and Self Portraits with artwork by fifth grade
1990s – Artist – Wayne Thiebaud and Pokemon Wall Art with artwork by fourth grade
2000s – Artist – Jim Dine with artwork by the Armstrong Art Club
2010s to present – Artist – Pia Camil with artwork by the Armstrong Art Club
In addition, there were musical selections by a select group of fifth grade students and an artifacts museum showcasing Armstrong’s 100 years.
