Phoebus High School students bring home state titles
Hampton City Schools proudly recognizes Jamar Osifo and Cheyanne Mayo of Phoebus High School for their outstanding achievements in track & field and for representing Hampton City Schools with excellence, determination, and pride.
Jamar Osifo is the 2026 outdoor state champion in the 300-meter hurdles, earning this prestigious title for the second consecutive year. His success is the result of years of hard work, discipline, resilience, and a commitment to excellence. Through countless hours of training and competition, he has distinguished himself as one of Virginia's top student-athletes.
Jamar's accomplishments extend well beyond the track. As a participant in the ACE program at Phoebus High School, he is on track to graduate with both his high school diploma and an associate degree while maintaining an outstanding academic record. He is also an active member of Kappa League, where he continues to develop as a leader, scholar, and servant of the community. He exemplifies the very best of Hampton City Schools as a champion in competition, a scholar in the classroom, and a role model in his community.
Cheyanne Mayo, a member of the Class of 2028, has established herself as one of Virginia's most accomplished young athletes through her excellence in hurdles, sprints, and jumping events. Her versatility, dedication, and competitive spirit have earned her recognition as an All-American and three-time state champion.
During the 2026 season, Cheyanne posted impressive personal bests of 14.47 in the 100-meter hurdles, 43.15 in the 300-meter hurdles, 19'4" in the long jump, 38'0" in the triple jump, and 5'4" in the high jump. At the VHSL Class 4 Indoor State Championships, she captured state championship titles in the 100-meter hurdles and high jump while earning state runner-up finishes in the triple jump and 300-meter hurdles. She also placed fourth in the long jump and fifth in the 200-meter dash, demonstrating exceptional versatility across multiple events. Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Cheyanne is admired for her outstanding work ethic, determination, and commitment to continuous improvement, inspiring teammates and younger athletes through her leadership and perseverance.
Their success is a testament to their hard work and determination, as well as the guidance and support of Coach Chineta Jackson-Davis, their families, teachers, teammates, and mentors.
