Visual and performing arts department event brings joy to Hampton families

For the fourth year, the visual and performing arts department hosted a SPLASH of the ARTS. In collaboration with the Hampton History Museum and Arts for Learning, the event drew in families for a day filled with creativity, culture, and community.

Children and parents participated in hands-on art workshops, enjoyed live performances, including poetry, music, and puppetry, and explored free museum exhibits. Highlights included a captivating One World Beats-Migration of Music performance by father and son duo Gary “JuJu Drum” Garlic and Gary “G” Garlic, Jr., and a colorful Rainbow Puppets show that had kids cheering with excitement.

Participating artists praised the event’s impact, calling it a joyful celebration of the arts that brought families together and made lasting memories. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with some saying it is the highlight each summer.

“We are proud to provide this summer arts event for families. We value our work with our community partners, the Hampton History Museum and Arts for Learning, the Virginia Affiliate of Young Audiences,” said Kelly Dee, visual and performing arts curriculum leader.
