Bethel High School breaks ground on new science wing

Bethel High School marked a major milestone on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, with the official ground-breaking ceremony for its new state-of-the-art science wing. The event, brought together members of the Hampton City Council, School Board members, city manager Mary Bunting, BHS students, academy principals, division leadership, building architects, and project managers to celebrate this transformative investment in education.

School Board chair Dr. Richard Mason opened the ceremony with welcoming remarks, highlighting the significance of the expansion: “This is more than just a building. It’s an investment in the future of education for our students—an investment in their potential, their growth, and the next generation of innovators and leaders.”

Following Dr. Mason, academy principal Dr. Sharmaine Grove spoke about the meaningful impact the new facility will have on student learning. “This science wing serves as a vital resource for students in the Academies of Hampton, especially those pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and health sciences,” Grove said. “With access to cutting-edge labs and real-world learning environments, our students will be equipped not only to dream big, but to turn those dreams into meaningful careers.”

Immediately following the remarks, guests participated in the official ground-breaking, with opportunities for both group and individual photos. The ground-breaking ceremony marks the start of a project that will redefine science education for Bethel High School students for years to come. The new wing is expected to be completed in August 2026.
