Langley Elementary School teacher presents at VALDEN Conference
Jomara Quiñones, a kindergarten dual language immersion (DLI) teacher at Langley Elementary School, recently presented at the Virginia Dual Language Educators Network (VALDEN) conference on building language knowledge.
Quiñones, along with other representatives of the school, first grade DLI teacher Gypsy Ponton and assistant principal Rasán Holmes also attended the conference. The group met Dr. Virginia Collier and Dr. Wayne Thomas who are known for working in the dual language education field for the past 44 years by conducting a longitudinal study on bilingual education. They created the famous DLI “graph” that shows the DLI model's significant impact on student achievement and language acquisition.
“This was an amazing opportunity to share what we do in Langley Elementary in our DLI program,” shared Quiñones. “To help other colleagues to explore different techniques during content delivery and instruction really is the essence of our program; team work with the goal of student success every day.”
