Smith Elementary School students create Rainforest Glow Gallery
The students at Captain John Smith Elementary School have been working hard on a glow art unit. These lessons are possible due to grants from the Hampton Commission for the Arts and the Hampton Education Foundation. All students in PreK through 5th grade worked on a rainforest animal using neon/fluorescent supplies under black lights. This unit connects art, math, science, and conservation. The artwork will be on display starting February 21, 2023.
“Our students have loved creating glowing art and are very excited to see the final glow gallery,” shared Smith art teacher Victoria Martin.
“This is so creative and impressive not only in the innovative display of students' art but also in the amount of work that Ms. Martin and the students have done to put this together,” said Ai Choo Ashe, Hampton City Schools teacher specialist in the department of visual and performing arts. “Kudos to Ms. Martin and the students at Smith Elementary.”
