Artwork for mayor’s holiday cards selected
Each year, the Hampton mayor’s office sponsors a holiday card contest for art students at the city’s four high schools. The tradition began more than 19 years ago under Mayor Ross Kearney II and has been carried on by every mayor since. This year's theme is Holidays in Hampton. The mayor invites students to interpret the theme using any two-dimensional medium suitable for reproduction on a holiday card. At least one piece from each high school is chosen, and the finished cards are sent to local business leaders and other officials to share holiday greetings from the mayor and city council. The program is a meaningful way to highlight the talents of Hampton’s young artists and the educators who support them.
“Let’s celebrate these remarkable students for their dedication, imagination, and outstanding accomplishments. I would also like to recognize their teachers, whose mentorship and support have helped make this achievement possible,” said Ai Choo Ashe, teacher specialist with Hampton City Schools’ visual and performing arts department.
