Bethel High School celebrates Purple Up!

The month of April is designated as the “Month of the Military Child,” and schools across the United States and overseas show their support for military-connected students in many meaningful ways. On April 15, the students and staff of Bethel High School (BHS) proudly demonstrated their support for their 82 military-connected students by wearing purple.

Additionally, Bethel hosted a “Purple-Up Breakfast Ceremony,” where military-connected students were treated to a catered breakfast buffet. The event provided an opportunity for fellowship, connection-building, games, and the sharing of lighthearted stories about life as a “military brat.”

Lieutenant Colonel Stinnie, Bethel Jr. ROTC instructor, remarked, “This was one of the first tasks Dr. Howard gave me upon arriving to Bethel in July, and I instantly knew how important Purple-Up! Day was to her. She also faced similar challenges, having been a military-connected student growing up overseas.”

Dr. Tanya Howard, BHS executive principal, shared, “At Bethel High School, we are deeply committed to ensuring that every military-connected student feels seen, valued, and supported. Purple-Up! Day is more than a celebration, it is a reflection of our gratitude for the sacrifices their families make and our promise that they will always have a strong sense of belonging here at Bethel.”

The Bethel High School Army JROTC “Bruin Battalion” went above and beyond the call of duty to decorate the cafeteria in purple, serve breakfast, and conduct the ceremony, ensuring every military-connected student walked away knowing they are loved and supported in the Bruin community.
