HCS counselor selected as Virginia School Counselors Association (VSCA) 2026 Elementary School Counselor of the Year

Kara Hart, professional school counselor at Bryan Elementary School, has been selected as the Virginia School Counselor Association (VSCA) 2026 Elementary School Counselor of the Year. The School Counselor of the Year award recognizes two outstanding professionals, one elementary and one secondary, who have made a positive impact in their school community.

Contributions to the profession are measured by the use of the ASCA National Model, evidence of data-driven practices, and the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program.

“Ms. Hart exemplifies excellence in school counseling through her data-driven leadership and steadfast commitment to student success. She is a tireless advocate who ensures every student’s needs are met, and every voice is heard while fostering a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment where all students feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive,” said Carla Mahn, HCS director of school counseling. “This honor and recognition are well deserved and long overdue.”
