Andrews PreK-8 School holds writing contest for students
Lillie Smith, reading specialist/K-5 literacy leader at Andrews PreK-8 School, recently encouraged students in kindergarten through fifth grade to participate in the WHRO PBS Kids Writing Contest. Not only were the student entries submitted for the WHRO contest, but they were also judged on the school level.
Akemini Fields won first place in the second grade level in the WHRO contest. In addition, Andrews presented awards on the school level on March 31, 2023.
First place went to Gianna Velasquez Romero, third grade
Second place went to Karter Hines, third grade
Honorable mention went to Akemini Fields, second grade and Chayim Hatcher, second grade
“We believe writing is needed, especially for our younger students,” said Smith. “The contest was a great way for students to use their creativity and self-expression. It was also a fun opportunity for teachers to reinforce the writing process while providing students with an exciting and rewarding activity that meets SOL requirements.”
