Congratulations to three Hampton City Schools students who placed in the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Tidewater Regional Art Contest. Akira Heitzenroeder, a fifth grader from Smith Elementary School, placed second in the elementary category; James Samuels, a sixth grader from Andrews PreK-8 School, placed third in the middle school category; and Love Wilson, a junior at Phoebus High School, placed second in the high school category.
The students competed with other elementary students from Accomack County, Chesapeake, Franklin, Isle of Wight County, Newport News, Norfolk, Northampton County, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Suffolk, Surry County, Sussex County, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg/James City County, and York County.
The annual VSBA Student Art Contest is held in conjunction with the annual VSBA Spring Regional Forums. This event is held to showcase art from the region. Each school division submits an Elementary, Middle, and High School entry. The artwork is judged and artwork selected for first place is shared throughout the year with the membership and spotlighted at the Annual Convention.
“Please join me in recognizing these students who received recognition for their amazing artwork. Their colorful and creative renditions showcase our students' imagination and creativity. We are very proud of their accomplishments,” said Ai Choo Ashe, teacher specialist with the HCS department of visual and performing arts.
Each student received a ribbon and certificate from VSBA.
