Additional Revisions to the HCS 2021-2022 Health Mitigation Strategies Plan
February 28, 2022
On Friday, February 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) made additional changes to its guidance in regard to face masks. Specifically, CDC no longer requires the wearing of masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/child care programs.
As a result, starting Tuesday, March 1, 2022, students will have the option to wear or not wear a mask on all Hampton City schools school buses. No documentation will be required to remain unmasked. It is important to note that we will not be able to accommodate requests for special seating assignments due to mask preference.
HCS continues to encourage and highly recommend all families consider mask use for their child in our schools and on our school buses as the division feels the wearing of masks is an essential component of our layered health mitigation strategies. We ask that you discuss these changes with your child to determine the best course of action for your circumstances and clarify parental expectations for masking.
March 1, 2022
Please see the information below regarding the following updates to the HCS 2021-2022 Health Mitigation Strategies plan, starting March 2, 2022.
HCS Staff
HCS adheres to the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) in regard to safety and health for labor and employment. On February 28, 2022, DOLI revised their mask requirements. Although, HCS continues to encourage all staff members to wear a face mask at all times while in school buildings and school buses, the following are the division’s protocols and expectations:
Please note that our School Administration Center (SAC) is located in the city of Hampton’s Ruppert Sargent Building on 1 Franklin Street. All employees and visitors are required to follow the city’s mask requirements. At this time, all city buildings and offices are requiring individuals to wear a face mask. If the city lifts their mask requirement, all HCS employees who work at SAC may then follow the guidelines above.
Visitors
Visitors are highly encouraged to wear a face mask at all times in HCS buildings and school buses. Disposable masks will be available in offices for visitors.
