Hampton continues to represent at the state level

Hampton City Schools has once again been asked to share best practices with divisions across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) will be offering two webinars on December 8, 2020, to assist teachers in using the newly developed Geometry and Algebra II Just in Time Mathematics Quick Check resources to support 2020-2021 lesson planning and instruction. Angela Byrd-Wright, mathematics curriculum leader for HCS, has been invited by VDOE to co-present these sessions. The advertisement for the professional development sessions were featured in the last two VDOE Teacher Direct publications. Teachers who are interested in participating may access the publications here. Both sessions will be recorded and will appear on VDOE’s YouTube channel.

Byrd-Wright served as the Geometry Lead Developer for the Just in Time Quick Checks for VDOE where she led a group of 10 developers in the creation of these new quick checks based on the high demand from EOC teachers wanting the quick checks to extend to Geometry and Algebra II.

In addition, Byrd-Wright has just been selected to serve on the Culturally Relevant and Inclusive Practices Advisory Committee. The Committee will work towards developing recommendations for educators to create an environment that fosters an inclusive mindset where there is involvement and empowerment, and the inherent worth and dignity of all people are recognized. Hampton City Schools is proud to have professionals like Dr. Byrd-Wright who can lead in the development of resources for divisions across the Commonwealth, and then share best practices for teachers, administrators, and mathematics supervisors.
