Cary Elementary School teachers transform learning spaces to get students excited for SOL review

Melissa Dickerson and Elise Culp, teachers at Cary Elementary School, wanted to get their students excited about SOL review. To do this, they transformed their classrooms.

Dickerson has been reading the Harry Potter books with her students and decided to transform her classroom into a Harry Potter themed room that is complete with a 9 ¾ platform entrance from the hallway. She even dressed up as Harry Potter and had fun giveaways like wands and train tickets for her students when they came into the classroom the week of May 10.

Culp transformed her room into an underwater adventure complete with sea turtles and sharks. She dressed up as a shark and gave the students fish floats and leis.

“It truly makes my principal heart so happy to watch these two teachers pour so much time, energy, and love into our Cary kids,” said Cary principal Heidi Brezinski. “Love can do powerful things during these unprecedented times! The students smiles prove that!”
