Learning Through History, Art & Legacy!
Hampton City Schools 7th grade students stepped beyond the classroom and into history during an enriching visit to the Hampton University Museum and Emancipation Oak as the grade level's first signature learning experience.
Students explored powerful works of art from the Harlem Renaissance, examined historical artifacts, and visited Hampton University's Legacy Room, gaining a deeper understanding of the people, stories, and experiences that have shaped our community.
Students also engaged with the Legacy Park exhibit, learning about those that provided the university with leadership, and enduring impact on the Hampton Roads community.
To bring their learning to life, students created collages centered around three powerful themes: leadership, freedom, and education. Their artwork provided an opportunity to reflect on how these ideas continue to shape their lives and communities today.
Through experiences like these, our students are not just learning about history - they are connecting with it, reflecting on it, and discovering their place within the story in their community.
