Join us for the Next Generation Storytellers Film Festival & Awards Ceremony on October 17

Walk the red carpet at the Next Generation Storytellers Film Festival & Awards—a dazzling evening celebrating seven short films created by students from Christopher Newport University and Hampton City Schools. Experience the creativity and talent of young filmmakers as they bring Hollywood-style excitement and authentic storytelling to our hometown.

These student-written and directed films will premiere at the Ferguson Center for the Arts on October 17, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., offering audiences an exclusive look at the next wave of cinematic talent emerging from Hampton City Schools and Christopher Newport University.

The Next Generation Storytellers Film Festival is a groundbreaking collaboration between Hampton City Schools and Next Generation Storytellers founders, Trent Garrett and Jacob Young.

Trent Garrett  is known for his roles in All My Children, Andi Mack, New Girl, Army of Thieves, and more. Jacob Young is an Emmy Award winner and known for his roles on The Bold and the Beautiful, All My Children, The Girl Next Door, The Walking Dead, and more.

This innovative program provides students with a unique, hands-on opportunity to explore every aspect of filmmaking—from writing and directing to acting and production. Throughout the program, students work alongside Garrett and Young to develop original short films that reflect their creativity, perspective, and passion for storytelling.
