From Imagination to Innovation: Come Explore the STEM Journey
Would you like to fly drones with the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, discover cutting edge technology inside the Newport News Shipbuilding TO GO MX Trailer, dive into the world of engineering and technology inside the Go TEC STEM van, or use a welding simulator with Virginia Ship Repair Association. How about learning about 3D printed biomedical training devices with the experts at Hampton Roads Biomedical Research Center, or talking with STEM innovators like Julie Williams-Byrd (acting deputy director of systems analysis and concepts directorate at NASA’s Langley Research Center) and Michelle Ferebee (deputy director of the office of strategic analysis, communications, and business development at NASA’s Langley Research Center) at the NASA exhibit? If so, the 4th Annual STEM Exploration Community Event is where you want to be on October 26!
Hampton City Schools is partnering for the fourth year with the Coastal Virginia STEM Hub, the National Institute of Aerospace, the City of Newport News, Brooks Crossing Innovation & Opportunity Center, and Old Dominion University to provide a FREE and EXCITING day filled with hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) at the 4th Annual STEM Exploration Community Event on October 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brooks Crossing Innovation and Opportunity Center (550 30th Street, Newport News). Hampton City Schools families are encouraged to attend this event and show your HCS spirit by wearing your school shirt.
Hampton City Schools will have four exhibits: the Kecoughtan High School Women in STEM Club, Hampton High School’s Maritime Academy and the Academy of Technology and Engineering, as well as Bethel High School’s Academy of Transportation, Analytics, Information, and Logistics. Other confirmed exhibitors include the National Institute of Aerospace, the Mariner’s Museum, James Madison University’s Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Energy, Nauticus, Dominion Energy, the Hampton Clean City Commission, the Children’s Museum of Virginia, and Hampton Roads Sanitation District.
Speakers will include Suzanne Sprague, the founder and content creator for Virtual Science Teachers, and Lily Donaldson, Miss United States 2022 and a current Ph.D. student researching software and sensor systems for agricultural technology.
Registration is required to attend the event (either in advance or on site). The event will be held rain or shine. Food trucks will be on site. Organizations wishing to exhibit should complete this registration application soon as space is extremely limited.
The event is a collaborative effort between the Coastal Virginia STEM Hub, Hampton City Schools, the National Institute of Aerospace, Brooks Crossing Innovation & Opportunity Center, Old Dominion University, and the City of Newport News.
