Bethel High School is awarded the VHSL Claudia Dodson Sportsmanship, Ethics & Integrity Award for the second consecutive year

Bethel High School has received the Claudia Dodson Sportsmanship, Ethics & Integrity Award for the second consecutive year. This award, in conjunction with the Virginia High School League (VHSL), recognizes schools that have established policies and procedures that make sportsmanship a priority and an expectation within the school and school community. Bethel was one of only four schools in Virginia to receive the award for 2023-2024.

The award was established in honor of the memory of Claudia Dodson, a VHSL assistant director from 1971-2002. According to the VHSL website, “Claudia was passionate and insistent that the educational basis of VHSL programs remain at the forefront. No one did more to promote standards of behavior expected from coaches, athletes, activities participants, students and team followers.”

“I'm incredibly proud of our student-athletes and coaches for earning the Claudia Dodson VHSL Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award for the second consecutive year,” said Bethel executive principal Dr. Tanya Howard. “This prestigious award recognizes school communities that truly prioritize sportsmanship. Being one of only four schools in Virginia to receive this distinction highlights the commitment of Bethel High School’s coaches, athletic director, and administration in upholding exemplary standards of behavior and integrity among our coaches and athletes.”

The school will be recognized by the Hampton School Board on November 6, 2024, and will receive a banner to display at the school.
