Kilgore chorus students perform at the Virginia Board of Education meeting

On Thursday, November 13, members of the Kilgore Gifted Center chorus performed in Richmond, VA, at the opening of the Virginia Board of Education meeting. Their chorus director is Amanda Galloway.

“Their musical talent was clearly evident, with a well-rehearsed and engaging performance. Beyond their skills, the students also demonstrated exceptional character, exhibiting respect towards everyone present. This combination of performance skill and commendable conduct reflects the dedication of both the students and their director,” said Sherry Hatton, Virginia Department of Education fine arts specialist.

The students prepared throughout the fall and sang music to represent their school and our school system. The music included Ad Astra, a song conveying a message of hope and empowerment, and Seize the Day, a song about camaraderie and working towards a common goal.

“The lessons students discover through their school music programs help shape them into stronger learners, compassionate citizens, and well-rounded human beings. Performances like these allow our students to demonstrate the best of their school and our community,” said Kelly Dee, Hampton City Schools visual and performing arts curriculum leader.

The student performers included:

Hazel Fowler

Stevie Goodman

Shylon Harris

Mackenzie Jones

Gabrielle Joyner
