Jones girls and Phenix boys win middle school basketball championships
Congratulations to the Jones Magnet Middle School girls basketball team and the Phenix PreK-8 School boys basketball team for winning the Hampton City Schools middle school championship for 2026. The girls defeated Kilgore Gifted Center with a score of 28-12. Their head coach is Kysien Dixon and assistant coaches are Jordyn Walton and Aliyah Washington. The boys defeated Syms Middle School for their fourth consecutive championship! The score was 48-24. The Phenix head coach is Cameron Bacote with assistant coaches Matthew Herod and Kendell Montgomery.
“Congratulations to the Jones girls basketball team on an incredible undefeated season and winning the middle school girls basketball championship! This accomplishment is a reflection of the hard work, discipline, and heart these young ladies brought to the court every single day,” said Jones principal Dr. Heidi Brezinski. “We are incredibly proud of the way they represented Jones Magnet Middle School with excellence, determination, and true teamwork throughout the season.”
“Congratulations to the Phenix boys basketball team on winning the 2025–2026 championship! Your hard work, dedication, teamwork, and perseverance paid off in a big way this season,” said Robin Hunt-Crenshaw, Phenix principal. “Thank you to the players, coaches, staff, families, and supporters who helped make this achievement possible. You represented George P. Phenix PreK-8 School with pride, determination, and excellence both on and off the court. Go Panthers!”
