Shaunte Moore of Hampton High School receives Gates Scholarship
Congratulations to Shaunte Moore of Hampton High School who has been named a Gates Scholar and member of The Gates Scholarship Class of 2025. The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to exceptional student leaders, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential.
As one of 750 Scholars chosen from a pool of over 48,000 applicants from across the nation, Shaunte now belongs to an elite group of young leaders—all of whom represent the very pinnacle of academic achievement, service, and commitment.
In addition to funding her undergraduate education, The Gates Scholarship will help Shaunte continue to hone her leadership skills, prepare for professional life, and start building an enduring network of fellow Scholars and other distinguished individuals. She will also have access to a range of support services, including mentoring, leadership development, wellness, career guidance, internship and job opportunities, and more.
Shaunte’s activities at school include president of the National Honor Society, Science Honor Society, former clerk of the Hampton Youth Commission, member of Project Discovery, member of Mu Alpha Theta, and a volunteer at Riverside Regional Medical Center in the oncology ward.
She plans to attend Virginia Wesleyan University in the fall and major in nursing. After graduation from college with her bachelor of science in nursing, she wants to start her career at Riverside Regional Medical Center in the oncology ward. She would eventually like to become a travel nurse, return to school to earn her master of science in nursing, become a nurse practitioner, and open her own practice.
“Shaunte is the true definition of a Crabber Scholar. She goes beyond a single test or set of assignments,” said Hampton High executive principal Haneef Majied. “She has been such a great example to our legacy of excellence by showing dedication in all levels of her education and extra curriculars. We are extremely proud of the work and success that Shaunte Moore has shown over the past four years. We know that she will shine at the next level when she attends Virginia Wesleyan University as a Gates Scholar.”
