HCS teachers, students, and families learn through the Responsive Arts in Education Grant
The Hampton City Schools (HCS) visual and performing arts department, Armstrong Elementary School for the Arts, and Moton Early Childhood Center, received federal grant funding from Arts for Learning and participated in the RAISE Program. The Responsive Arts in Education (RAISE) program assigns resident teaching artists to provide professional development for faculty in arts integration for all subjects. Teachers develop creative strategies to reach all learners using various art forms connected to social-emotional learning. The residence culminated in school-wide demonstrations of learning for the students, their families, and the community. More photos from the events can be found here.
“Young people are hardwired for the arts. Arts integration training and these strategies align perfectly with learning goals for all subjects. We appreciate the efforts of Heather Goode, principal of Moton Early Childhood Center, and Dr. Tiffany Geddie-Suggs, principal of Armstrong School for the Arts, for providing unique opportunities like this in HCS,” said Kelly Dee, HCS visual and performing arts curriculum leader.
