Two hundred twenty-four students earn superior ratings at the HCS solo and ensemble festival
Students from the Hampton City Schools (HCS) middle and high schools participated in the HCS Solo and Ensemble Festival. They performed their solos and ensembles for professional adjudicators, who gave them feedback and rated them against a state standard of excellence. A total of 224 students earned a superior rating, which means that they exceeded the standard of excellence.
Schools will be presenting medals to the individual students.
“These students selected their music in consultation with their music teacher, prepared it alone or with their classmates, and received feedback from their music teacher. The adjudication is like a job interview with students independently preparing the music, performing for the adjudicator, and only later learning their rating. The participating students and schools have much to be proud of,” said Kelly Dee, visual and performing arts curriculum leader.
