ELL Family Engagement Night connects families with school and community resources
On May 15, 2025, the world languages & English language learners (ELL) department, in collaboration with family engagement specialists from Kraft Elementary, Burbank Elementary, and Machen Elementary, hosted a successful ELL Family Engagement Night at the Patriot Center. The event aimed to highlight the vital role of family involvement in student achievement and to connect families with valuable school and community services.
Community partners, including Commonwealth Catholic Charities, the Hampton City Schools (HCS) social work department, and the Peninsula Regional Education Program (adult ESL classes), were on hand to offer resources and support. Families had the opportunity to sign up for ParentSquare and share their needs and concerns directly with engagement specialists.
ELL teachers attended to engage with the families of the students they serve daily, and HCS food and nutrition services provided a delicious catered meal. The evening was a great success, with plans already underway to grow the event in the coming school year.
“We hosted a Family Engagement Night to welcome families and connect them with ELL teachers, family engagement specialists, and community resources,” said Leidimar Ramirez Sandoval, director of the HCS world languages & English language learners department. “It was a warm, informative evening focused on building strong home, school, and community partnerships to support student success.”
