Bethel students represent HCS at Bike Expo
Evan Bell and Ryan Goodwin from the Future Bike Riders project-based learning (PBL) group from Bethel High School, Transportation, Analytics, Information, and Logistics Academy (TrAIL), proudly represented their school at the Bike Expo, hosted by Go Commute and Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), on Wednesday, April 30. The event celebrated active transportation, bike safety, and community engagement — our students were right at the heart.
The highlight of the event came when the Vice Mayor Steven L. Brown delivered an inspiring address and officially read a city proclamation in honor of Bike Month, emphasizing the city’s commitment to sustainability, alternative transportation, and youth involvement in civic initiatives.
The Future Bike Riders group, made up of forward-thinking students passionate about environmental impact and urban design, shared their innovative ideas and prototypes for a more bike-friendly future. Through this hands-on experience, students not only demonstrated their learning but also networked with transportation leaders, local bike advocates, and city officials.
“Our students were energized by the opportunity to contribute to the community conversation about transportation,” said Heather Woodruff, business and information technology teacher at Bethel. “It was an authentic learning experience that connected classroom work with real-world impact.”
Hampton City Schools is always proud to see our students lead with passion and purpose, proving that their ideas can make a real difference in the community.
