HCS secondary chorus students earn honors

We continue to celebrate Music In Our Schools Month by congratulating the following middle and high school students for auditioning and earning placement in the Virginia Choral Directors Association All-District Honor Chorus. The recognition is the highest individual award that chorus students can earn in the region. Through their audition with students from seven other school systems, 25 students also earned the privilege of further challenging themselves by auditioning for placement in the All-State Chorus. Lastly, in a separate national audition, two chorus students from the middle school and high school levels earned placement in the American Choral Directors Association National Honors Concert.

“We are proud of these students, teachers, and their supportive school leaders. Participation in the school chorus strengthens reading skills as students learn to interpret musical notation and lyrics while working together to communicate meaning through music. Through their singing, chorus students inspire pride in our community and demonstrate the power of music to bring people together,” said Kelly Dee, visual and performing arts curriculum leader.
