KHS students place in Prefaces exhibition
The Torggler Fine Arts Center continues its tradition of celebrating young artistic talent through its annual Prefaces exhibition, held each spring. The exhibition highlights work from full-time students in grades 10 through 12 across public, private, and parochial high schools in Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, York County, Williamsburg, and James City County. Student artwork is selected by their teachers, showcasing some of the region’s most promising emerging artists.
This year, Kecoughtan High School students earned top recognition. Addison Bartlett, an 11th grader, was awarded Best in Show, while fellow 11th grader Henry Broughton IV received an Honorable Mention. Both students are taught by Ashley Brooks.
“As a teacher, it is incredibly rewarding to see students like Addison Bartlett and Henry Broughton IV be recognized for their dedication and creativity during the Prefaces exhibition at the Torrgler Fine Arts Center,” shared Brooks. “Addison's piece Treachery won Best in Show and Henry's piece Is there gum on my shoe? received Honorable Mention, both of which speak volumes to the countless hours of effort they poured into their work. I am beyond proud of what they have accomplished so far this school year.”
Congratulations to these talented students, and thank you to the teachers whose guidance and support continue to inspire excellence in the arts.
