Helena Moore, second grader at Smith Elementary School, gives opening at March 18 School Board meeting

Helena Moore, a second grader at Smith Elementary School, was selected to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and give the opening at the March 18, 2026, School Board meeting. She shared a collection of affirmations and asked everyone to repeat them with her.

 

Helena enjoys arts and crafts and cooking. Her favorite subjects are art and reading.

Her parents, brother, aunt, her uncle Delegate Virgil Thornton, Smith principal Lindsay Jackson Brown, assistant principal Alexis Jones, teacher Tameka Brown, and school counselor Yolanda Vaughan joined her at the meeting.
