Celebrating Skills in Action!

Bethel High School and Hampton High School partnered with the Virginia Department for Aging & Rehabilitative Services (DARS) and VersAbility Resources during the 2025-2026 school year to provide students with an engaging transition experience through Skills in Action.

The eight-week program allowed students to apply the pre-employment transition skills they had learned in the classroom through real-world experiences in the community. Students strengthened workplace communication, interview skills, time management, self-advocacy, financial literacy, and career exploration while connecting with employers and industry professionals.

“The growth we witnessed in our students was inspiring. Through real-world learning experiences, they gained confidence, independence, and valuable skills that will support their success in employment, education, and adult life,” shared DARS counselor Ayesha Cole.

As we celebrate this year's accomplishments, Hampton City Schools, DARS, and VersAbility are excited to expand Skills in Action to all four high schools next year. Students will have the opportunity to build critical work-readiness skills that will help prepare them for internship experiences during their senior year and successful transitions after high school.

Congratulations to all of our Skills in Action participants on a successful year!
