ELL students explore agriculture and environmental stewardship at Bluebird Gap Farm

Elementary English Language Learner (ELL) students recently stepped outside the classroom for an enriching field trip to Bluebird Gap Farm, where they explored agriculture, environmental stewardship, and the natural world through hands-on learning experiences.

The field trip, a collaborative effort between ELL department staff and classroom teachers, provided students with opportunities to learn about farm animals, their care, and the important role agriculture plays in the community. Students also engaged with the farm environment, gaining a greater appreciation for nature and the responsibility of caring for living things.

In addition to supporting science and environmental learning, the experience helped students strengthen their language skills through meaningful conversations, observation, and collaboration with peers from across the division.

“The ELL elementary field trip to Bluebird Gap Farm provided students with a hands-on opportunity to learn about farm animals, environmental stewardship, and agriculture while collaborating with peers from other elementary schools,” said Leidimar Ramirez-Sandoval, director of language programs. “This experience supported language development and real-world learning in an engaging outdoor setting.”

By connecting classroom concepts to real-world experiences, the field trip fostered curiosity, encouraged environmental awareness, and provided students with memorable learning opportunities beyond the school walls.
