Ann B. Cherry appointed to Christopher Newport University Board of Visitors
Hampton City Schools congratulates Ann B. Cherry, former Hampton School Board chair and longtime board member, on her appointment to the Christopher Newport University Board of Visitors by Governor Abigail Spanberger.
The Board of Visitors serves as the governing body of the university, providing oversight and strategic direction to support the institution's mission and continued success. Cherry brings decades of experience in education, leadership, and public service to the role, including her longstanding commitment to students and families in Hampton.
In announcing the appointments, Governor Spanberger emphasized the important role board members play in advancing higher education across the Commonwealth.
“I am proud to appoint this talented group of individuals to serve on our higher education boards,” said Governor Abigail Spanberger. “I have full confidence that their leadership will strengthen our world class institutions while upholding the values that make our Commonwealth’s colleges and universities the envy of the world. I look forward to their service as they advance opportunities for every student who walks onto our campuses.”
A longtime champion for public education, Cherry served as executive director of Public Relations and Marketing for Hampton City Schools from 1996 to 2013 and has been a member of the Hampton School Board since 2016. During her tenure on the Board, she has served as both vice chair and chair. Throughout her service, she has been a dedicated advocate for educational excellence, student achievement, and meaningful partnerships that strengthen the Hampton community.
“I feel so honored and appreciative to have been selected for this Gubernatorial appointment,” said Cherry. “Christopher Newport University is an outstanding, well-respected university, and I look forward to making a positive impact on the CNU Board of Visitors.”
