Addison Bartlett places first in the Third District Congressional Art Competition

We are proud to share that Addison Bartlett, a junior at Kecoughtan High School, won first place in the 3rd District Congressional Art Competition. She was recognized by Congressman Bobby Scott on May 28, 2026, during a special ceremony at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center. Her winning piece, titled “Treachery,” was created under the guidance of her art teacher, Ashley Brooks.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the country. Since its inception in 1982, more than 650,000 students have participated in the Artistic Discovery competition. Entries are submitted through congressional offices, and a panel of local artists selects the winners.

Addison’s artwork will be displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol Building, viewed by hundreds of thousands of visitors.

“As Addison Bartlett’s art teacher, I could not be more proud that she has been selected as the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition for her piece, Treachery,” said Brooks. “I have had the privilege of watching her grow and develop as an artist, and this recognition feels incredibly well deserved. Addison puts a great deal of thought and intention into her work, and it really shows in the strength of her ideas and the care she takes with her process. It is an amazing honor and one that will allow her work to be seen by people from all over the country. I am truly proud of Addison and excited for her as she experiences this well-deserved recognition.”

Congratulations to Addison for her outstanding achievement!
