Kilgore students win WeVideo’s Creative Challenge contest

Congratulations to sixth through eighth grade students in Lisa Ann Wilson’s digital studio filming elective at Kilgore Gifted Center. The following students won the WeVideo Create Challenge film contest: Lily Mays (7th), Brielle Burnette (7th), Albert Meeks, Jr. (7th), Israel Veney (7th), Tristin Thomas (6th), Mason Binder (6th), Zoë Walker (6th), Andrew Phan (8th), Jahshere Ashley-Rucker (6th), and Aria Miles (6th).

The challenge was to create a video that showcased media from WeVideo’s vast collection of images, short video clips, and music. Students could create a film using a theme of their choice or feature a famous person. Digital citizenship was a key focus, with students required to credit any public domain media used in their projects, alongside content from WeVideo’s stock library.

According to Wilson, the web-based WeVideo platform was originally provided to Kilgore students during the pandemic/virtual school period as a way for the course to continue in the absence of the iMac-based iMovie. The subscription is still available to students, giving them a choice of video editors and a richer experience in filmmaking.

Congratulations to the students for this outstanding achievement and for showcasing the power of student voice and storytelling.
