HCS receives first VSBA Showcasing Innovation Award
During the regular, televised School Board meeting on June 4, 2025, Dr. Cardell Patillo, Jr., the past president of Virginia School Boards Association(VSBA), presented the first-ever VSBA Showcasing Innovation Award in the category of Above 10,001 Student Population for the Hampton City Schools (HCS) Instructional Toolkit.
Patillo said, “The program exemplifies the essence of this award – innovation, impact, and meaningful collaboration. Among a competitive field of outstanding submissions from across the Commonwealth, the initiative stood out as a shining example of excellence.”
In addition, the division has been invited to present the program during this year’s VSBA Annual Convention in November.
“We are incredibly proud to receive this prestigious recognition from the Virginia School Boards Association. The HCS Instructional Toolkit reflects our division’s unwavering commitment to innovation, collaboration, and student achievement,” said School Board chair Dr. Richard Mason. “This award is a testament to the hard work of our educators, staff, and leadership who continuously strive to deliver high-quality, forward-thinking educational resources.”
