Hampton City Schools transportation team recognized by Joint Base Langley-Eustis for excellence in service

On June 12, 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Thieu Meyers of Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE) presented military patches and a special commendation to Hampton City Schools (HCS) director of transportation, Darrin Wills, and transportation dispatcher, Kaniqua Woods. The recognition honors the team's outstanding support of the Air Power Over Hampton Roads event held April 26-27, 2025.

Over the course of the two-day event, the HCS transportation department deployed more than 125 school buses, successfully transporting over 30,000 attendees to and from the base. Lt. Col. Meyers praised the team for executing a complex transportation plan with precision, including adapting routes in real time between Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) and the Hampton Coliseum to meet evolving needs. She also highlighted the team’s remarkable efficiency in clearing the installation in under 45 minutes after the event concluded.

“It should be recognized that their contributions continued the legacy of excellence that helped JBLE earn the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) Platinum Award in 2023 for its superior transportation and parking operations,” said Lt. Col. Meyers.

This honor underscores the professionalism, flexibility, and unwavering commitment of the HCS transportation team in supporting major regional and military events. Hampton City Schools is proud to partner with JBLE in supporting large-scale community and military events to the greater Hampton Roads community.
