Bethel High School senior appointed to Virginia Education Student Advisory Board

Hampton City Schools is proud to announce that Saige Holden, a senior at Bethel High School, has been appointed by Governor Abigail Spanberger to serve on the Virginia Education Student Advisory Board.

Saige is one of only eight students from across the Commonwealth selected to serve on the board and will represent Virginia's Region 2 during the 2026–2027 school year.

The Student Advisory Board is composed of eight rising high school seniors representing Virginia's eight superintendent regions. Appointed by the Governor, board members provide student perspectives on education policy and make recommendations to the Virginia Board of Education on issues impacting students statewide.

A student in Bethel High School's Academy of Law and Public Safety, Saige has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to leadership and service throughout her high school career. Some of her activities have included serving as a student representative to the Hampton School Board, vice president of the Hampton 4-H Teen Club, a LEAD Academy ambassador, and a representative on the Academy of Law and Public Safety Advisory Board. She has also played varsity volleyball for Bethel High School and competed with the Virginia Wave Volleyball Club.

Saige's dedication to serving others has earned her recognition as one of Hampton Roads' Top 20 Under 20, an honor celebrating outstanding young leaders who are making a positive impact in their communities.

“Saige is an outstanding example of student leadership in action," said Hampton City Schools Superintendent Dr. Raymond L. Haynes. “She has consistently used her voice to advocate for her peers while demonstrating excellence in academics, athletics, and service. We are incredibly proud of her appointment and know she will represent Bethel High School, Hampton City Schools, and the Commonwealth with distinction.”

As a member of the Virginia Education Student Advisory Board, Saige will collaborate with fellow student leaders from across the Commonwealth to provide insight and recommendations on issues affecting Virginia's public schools, ensuring that student voices play an important role in shaping educational policy.
